Frequently Asked Questions

Which grade levels do you currently offer?

We currently offer grades K-12.  Grade levels might be combined into one room with one teacher if there are fewer than 6 students in a grade level.  We believe that mixing age groups (similar to the Montessori style) is beneficial for students to learn to work with others.

Do you offer classes for homeschoolers?

Learn more about our Fun Fridays here.

We do not have a part-time or a hybrid program for homeschoolers, as it is disruptive to our full-time students.

Do you offer Summer Camps?

Learn more about our Fall, Spring, and Summer Camps here.

Do you offer a sports program?

Not at this time, as we have fewer than 150 students.  We would love to partner with a local sports league in the future.

What curriculum do you use?  Is it accredited?

We use textbook based curriculum that is a combination of several publishers for all grades.  Chromebooks are incorporated into the curriculum for all students for research, typing, coding, foreign language, presentations, and projects.

We can also use EDgenuity from Imagine Learning, which is accredited, for grades 9th-12th.  The accredited program can be used if you start with us on the first day of the semester.  It is an fixed schedule, so we do not recommend this program to anyone who transfers to our school after day 1.

Our school has begun the process of school-wide accreditation with Cognia, but it is not a quick process.  If you intend to transfer to a local high school after attending LCA, please inquire with that school about their non-accreditation policies for transfer students.  CISD schools that do not accept non-accredited transfer students include The Woodlands High School and The Woodlands College Park High School.

We believe that elementary students should do more hands on learning, and have plenty of time outside and moving around.  There will be minimal work on computers until 5th grade.

What is your student to teacher ratio?

We cap classes at 10-12 students per teacher.

What are the school hours?

Core hours are 9am-3pm, Monday-Thursday.  Drop-off begins no earlier than 8:30am.

Fridays will be designated as Flex/Fun Fridays and are flexible to allow parents to schedule vacations or appointments during the day.  These hours are included in the cost of tuition.  This amount is not tax deductible.

Before school care is 7:30am-8:30am. There is an additional fee for these hours.  This amount is tax deductible until age 13.

After school care is 3:00pm-5:00pm.  There is an additional fee for these hours.  This amount is tax deductible until age 13.

Do you offer scholarships?

We will offer a limited number of Need-Based Tuition Assistance packages on a need basis each year.

We will also offer a Work-Study Program if your child is over 14 and wants to help work to reduce their tuition.

We also offer a Parent Volunteer Program  that can help reduce tuition through volunteer hours at our school and is open for both students and parents.

What is your tuition cost?

Please see our Tuition & Fees page.

Do you have school counselors?

Not at this time, but we do plan to offer on-site counseling in the future.  We would like to partner with local OT and play therapists, as well as mental health counselors, to offer these services on-site to families.

What type of security is in place at your school?

We do not have plans for a clear backpack policy or metal detectors at the school, because we feel is creates an unhealthy school environment for children.  However, we do take security seriously in the wake of everything going on in America.

Our entire school is surrounded by a tall wrought iron security fence and security gates.  Every door has an RFID scanner to enter, and it logs all scanned ID badges.  All drop-off students and all campus visitors must enter through a secure front lobby.  All campus visitors must be escorted into the building by a staff member.  No students are allowed to leave campus without permission during school hours.

All students and visitors are subject to random bag inspections without cause, per our Student and Parent Handbook.  There is a zero tolerance policy for drugs or weapons on campus.

What is your school calendar?

We have our own school calendar* but follow Conroe ISD for school closures related to weather or emergencies.  We are located at the boundary between Magnolia ISD and Conroe ISD, but most staff and students live within CISD boundaries.

*We will generally start the first full week in August and finish the last full week of May.  This is due to the fact that we have 2 Fall Breaks (Fall Flex Week and CISD Thanksgiving), 1 Winter Break, and 2 Spring Breaks (CISD Spring Break and Spring Flex Week).  This is to allow staff and families with children at multiple schools (public and private) to travel during the school holidays (November and March) as well as those with children who have a more flexible vacation schedule to travel outside of peak holiday times (October and April/May).  We also believe that Summer Slide is a real problem in schools that break from mid-May to late-August, and that parents, teachers and students can all benefit from sporadic breaks during the school year as opposed to a long break during the summer.

Do you have a Student Code of Conduct?

Our Student and Parent Handbook and Code of Conduct can be downloaded here.  All students and parents must sign and agree to abide by the handbook.

Where are you located?
